The Ngila Estate was established in Karatu in the early 1900s during the German colonial period. The farm eventually transferred to British ownership after World War II, when the country became a British-led United Nations Trust Territory. In 1990, the estate was sold to Rudolph Meyer, whose family still owns the land today. The 100-hectare farm has been upgraded with modern irrigation and processing facilities, and achieved its Rainforest Alliance certification.
